Berserk Manga Artist Kentarou Miura Dies At Age 54

Sad News sweeps the anime community as Berserk manga artist Kentarou Miura passed away earlier this month on May 6 as a result of an acute aortic heart dissection. The news broke out from Darkhorse comics the publishing company most known for publishing comics like HellBoy and the English version of the Berserk Manga; broke the news of Miura’s passing early this Thursday morning. Miura was 54 years old and leaves behind a legacy of work as a manga artist. Darkhorse Comics took to twitter to pay their respects to the late Kentaruo Miuras “Kentaro Miura passed away on May 6, 2021 from acute aortic dissection. He was 54. Miura-sensei was a master artist and storyteller and we had the great privilege of publishing several of his finest works, including his masterpiece, Berserk. 1/”

Berserk is said to be one of the longest running and most popular manga ever to hit the book shelves of books stores. Berserk was written and illustrated by Miura in Japan in 1989 and was then published in the U.S. on October 22, 2003 which continued to be published to this day as of September 25 2019 their are 40 current volumes published. Along with 50 million physical and digital copies internationally totaling in 350 issues. The story of Berserk follows the characters Guts and Griffith who are mercenaries in a dark ,medieval, European, fantasy inspired world.

The Manga then went on to Spawn the Berserk anime series which was aired on Nippon TV on October 7, 1997 and ran until March 31 1998. Consisting of a total 25 episodes produced by Oriental Light and Magic; then after on April 7, 2017 a second Berserk season premiered on Crunchyroll with 2 hour long episode premiere. Along with a second season a film trilogy based on the series was released in Japan. Along with Berserk Miura made Futabi, King of Wolves, Gigangtomakhia, Ourou Den, and Duranki. Miura will be forever missed by many Berserk fans along with many other fans in the anime community will forever remember for all that he has given us with is work may he rest in peace.
